Welcome to the Guilford County Department of Public Health, Women’s Health Program Maternity Clinic. It is our goal to help women have the healthiest pregnancy and baby possible. Below is an explanation of what we offer to our patients as their prenatal care provider.

Scope of Care

The Women’s Health Program Maternity Clinic will provide comprehensive prenatal care for low to medium risk pregnancies. High-risk pregnancies will receive prenatal care at the Moses Cone Health System Outpatient High Risk Clinic.

All patients will deliver at The Cone Health Women’s and Children’s Center.

Clinic/Department Policies

We accept Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield and UnitedHealthcare insurance plans for prenatal care provided in our clinics. Patients with other insurance plans will need to pay for their visit in full at the time of service. A claim will be filed on the patient’s behalf and if payment is received, the patient will receive a refund. Patients who do not have insurance and are not eligible for Medicaid may purchase services at a reduced rate based on income and family size. Patients will be asked to provide proof of income to determine cost of services. If proof of income is not provided, patients are charged full price (100% for each service). It is the responsibility of patients to cancel and reschedule any appointments they cannot attend ahead of time.

Emergency Coverage

If our patients experience an emergency after clinic hours, they can call or go to The Women’s Hospital of Greensboro or High Point Regional Health System as soon as possible. Medicaid recipients should take their current card with them. Self-pay patients are responsible for the bill they receive from the hospital.

Lab Studies

During the first prenatal care visit, our patients are screened for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and Hepatitis B. Blood typing, blood count and a urine test are also done. More testing is done at specific times during the pregnancy (ultrasound at 16-18 weeks and one-hour blood sugar test for diabetes at 26-28 weeks). HIV testing and Neural Tube screening are also offered. A urine sample may be needed at every clinic appointment. Other lab testing may be done as needed.

Anticipated Schedule of Visits

Patients can expect to have a prenatal appointment every four weeks during the first 28 weeks of their pregnancy. During the 28th to 35th weeks, appointments are every two weeks, and then every week from 36 weeks until the time of delivery. This schedule can change based on specific needs.
