The Guilford County Child Fatality Prevention Team/Community Child Protection Team (CFPT/CCPT) presented its 22nd annual “Safety Makes Cents” award to Level Up Parenting. The “Safety Makes Cents” award is a monetary citation in the amount of $1,000 for outstanding work in the field of childhood injury prevention.
Level Up Parenting is a local non-profit agency whose mission is to transform the mindset of single moms in the community by offering enrichment opportunities focused on helping them excel at parenting. Tamica Hughes, founder of Level Up Parenting, was a teen and single mom who realized the importance of support and access to resources for single parents. The organization offers an eight-week parenting class and workshops that are family centered. This includes activities for children as well as nutritious meals for the whole family. Level Up Parenting also provides other services to the community including:
- Diapers, wipes, and formula to those in need
- A clothing closet for moms filled with gently used business attire
- Large, gently used baby items
- An annual scholarship awarded to a teen mom

The “Safety Makes Cents” award gives Level Up Parenting the opportunity to purchase brand new car seats of the highest safety standard, providing an increased level of protection to children. With this award and through the support of community partners, Level Up Parenting will continue to make an impact on the lives of hundreds of local families.
Individuals or groups representing agencies, businesses, coalitions, organizations, or clubs within Guilford County with proven injury prevention efforts in reducing child fatalities may apply for the annual “Safety Makes Cents” award. Funds must be used to further the winning group’s efforts.
