Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Division is reminding parents of school aged children to have your child’s required school immunizations before school begins on August 26. All North Carolina school systems require proof of immunizations within the first thirty days of the new school year, which is September 25, 2019 for the upcoming traditional school year. According to research from the US Centers for Disease Control, on-time vaccination throughout childhood is essential because it helps provide immunity before children are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. Vaccines are tested to ensure that they are safe and effective for children to receive at the recommended ages.
“Many diseases are rare in the Unites States because of the vaccines that have been given over the course of decades to prevent them. If we stop vaccinating, these diseases would resurface, potentially causing outbreaks. Vaccines work. Vaccines protect everyone. We encourage parents to make their child’s back to school vaccination appointment now” stated Vonda Pabon, Clinic Services Nurse Manager.
Immunization appointments are available for all children from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays in Public Health’s general immunization clinics, located at 1100 E. Wendover Avenue in Greensboro and 501 E. Green Drive in High Point.
Appointments for all clinics are required. Please call 336-641-3245 for an appointment. Please bring your child’s immunization (vaccination) record with you to the appointment.
If you have health insurance, including Medicaid, please have your card handy when you call.
Public Health nurses will also be providing vaccines for rising 7th graders at two upcoming community events: August 17th at James B. Dudley High School in Greensboro and August 24th at High Point Central High School in High Point. Both events will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
