Sheriff Danny Rogers reports that on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at approximately 8:18 pm, deputies received a 911 call from a female at a location on Oak Forest Drive in Summerfield, reporting Tyson Williams had just arrived at the location. The caller stated she was in fear for her safety due to an incident that occurred between them a day earlier.

As deputies arrived, they encountered Mr. Williams behind the residence near a shed. Deputies challenged Mr. Williams and he fled into the shed at which time deputies reported hearing a gunshot from inside the shed. A perimeter was established and deputies attempted to negotiate with Mr. Williams. Emergency response teams from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, Greensboro Police Department, to include negotiators responded to the incident. Multiple Troopers from the NC Highway Patrol and SHP air assets also assisted.

During the investigation, it was determined Tyson Dolan Williams (W/M 39 years of age) was wanted by the Greensboro Police Department, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, and the NC Highway Patrol.

During the negotiations, Mr. Williams reported he had a hostage inside the shed with him, but this information could not be confirmed. After several hours of exhaustive efforts to negotiate Mr. Williams’ surrender, deputies heard a single gunshot from inside the shed. Deputies made entry into the shed and found Mr. Williams suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Medical attention was immediately provided for Tyson Williams and he was transported by EMS to a local hospital. At this time his condition remains critical.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our appreciation to all of our law enforcement and EMS partners who assisted with this incident.

This investigation is on-going and any additional media inquiries should be directed to Public Information Officer Max Benbassat at (336) 641-2752.
