Guilford County has appointed Anita Ramachandran as the county’s Interim Public Health Director, effective August 9, 2024.
Ramachandran is a longtime staff member of the Guilford County Division of Public Health (GCDPH). She began her career with GCDPH in December 1998 as a Community Health Educator, developing health promotion and chronic disease prevention programs in high priority health areas.
Since June 2021, Ramachandran has served as Assistant Public Health Director, successfully overseeing key public health divisions, including community health, environmental health, allied services, and health education. A member of the GCDPH Executive Team, she also has managed public health preparedness, epidemiology, and public health pandemic-related funding.
“I am honored to be appointed as Interim Public Health Director,” said Ramachandran. “I look forward to fostering collaboration in Guilford County to advance health equity, enhance well-being, maintain daily operations, and address the evolving public health needs for each of our residents.”
Ramachandran has a master’s degree in health administration and business administration from Pfeiffer University. She received her bachelor’s degree in economics and sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has been a resident of Guilford County since the age of one and is a graduate of Ben L. Smith High School located in Greensboro, N.C.
