Guilford County is now accepting Community Based Organization (CBO) applications from local nonprofits that offer a diverse range of services to county residents. Annually, Guilford County allocates county funds to support 501(c) organizations engaged in delivering essential human services and economic development programs. The eligible organizations, referred to as CBOs, can offer initiatives such as youth and community development, education, arts, culture, enhancement of business prospects, and the promotion of job creation.

“Nonprofit organizations play a pivotal role in enhancing the well-being and cohesion of Guilford County. These organizations serve as the backbone of our local communities, addressing a wide range of issues and contributing to the overall development of the communities they serve,” said Guilford County Board of Commissioners Chair Melvin “Skip” Alston. “One of the key aspects of many of these organizations in Guilford County is their commitment to fostering community engagement. Through various programs and initiatives, these organizations bring residents together as One Guilford, creating a sense of belonging and shared responsibility. This not only strengthens social ties but also contributes to the development of a more resilient and supportive community.”

Nonprofits seeking to apply for County funding must complete and send the application to grants@guilfordcountync.gov by 5pm on Friday, March 1, 2024. Organizations are welcome to attend a virtual information session on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 11am via Microsoft Teams to learn more about the application process. Anyone interested in attending the information session can register online. A recording of the information session will be posted on the County’s website.

Organizations with a primary economic development focus will be subject to a review and approval process that complies with North Carolina statute (G.S. 158-7.1) which governs appropriations for economic development purposes. This process includes a public hearing prior to approving an economic development award. EDOs seeking funding can complete the application for consideration.

The Guilford County Board of Commissioners approved $2.9 million in Community Based Funding for 63 agencies for the current 2023/2024 fiscal year. The County’s current Community Based Funding includes $2.3 million for CBOs and $600,000 for EDOs. The amount available for fiscal year 2024/2025 is subject to change based on funding availability.
