Post Date:02/20/2020 12:43 PM

The Guilford County Board of Elections held an Emergency Meeting today at 11 a.m. at the Old Guilford County Courthouse in anticipation of severe weather expected this afternoon through early morning Friday. All five board members were present at the meeting and voted unanimously to close the County’s Early Voting sites today at 4 p.m., Thursday February 20th and delay opening sites Friday starting at noon.

Chairman of the Board, Jim Kimel, stated, “County staff provided us with up to date weather forecasts to help us ensure that the voting sites are safe. Decisions to modify the voting schedules are taken very seriously as they have a large impact on logistics and accessibility, but our number one priority is to ensure safety of our poll workers and our citizens voting.”

Guilford County Elections Director, Charlie Collicutt shared that his staff works very closely with County Emergency Management during voting events to ensure all sites run smoothly. “Whether it is a power outage, high turnouts, road construction issues, or in today’s case inclement weather, we take every precaution to anticipate and prepare for the unexpected to ensure that voters have great voting experience.”

Guilford County early voting sites opened February 13, 2020 and will run through February 29 leading up to the Primary Elections March 3. The newly revised voting schedule can be found on the County’s website at https:/guilfordcountync.gov/
